MEET SUZANNE

My PHILOSOPHY

My approach in my own life, as well as when supporting others, is integrative and holistic. THere are countless ways to explore the interplay between mind, body, and spirit - and I find value in many of them. Some of the modalities I find most useful are Somatic Experiencing and EMDR (Eye Movement DESENSITIZATION and Reprocessing). This work helps to address the disconnect often experienced by unresolved trauma. As a trained Somatic eXperiencing counselor, I create a safe therapeutic space for my clients while gently challenging dysfunctional behaviors and beliefs that may be highly adaptive but no longer serve them in a functional way.

i believe our attachment styles, often modeled by previous generations and adopted by the most recent generation, can create meaning or misery in how we move through the world. through our work together we can explore owning your energy and its impact on others, as well as how you receive other people’s energy. This is called boundary work in its purist form. exploring an individual’s narrative can be an important therapeutic tool. for example, What do you know about your origin story? what do you make up about it? and what negative core beliefs have developed because of it? getting to know your shadow self (thos parts of yourself that have been marginalized, exiled, or shamed) and developing the ability to integrate these parts into your conscious experience are all part of the healing process. from my experience with clients and from my own personal experience, I have found it is as important to laugh as it is to cry when we do this work. finding access to joy and moving through grief in to gratitude can be a powerful way to heal.

My STORY

i spent my childhood in a suburb of chicago, illinois and have deep midwestern roots. I have my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of michigan and moved to Arizona to pursue a Masters Degree in Health Services administration from Arizona State University. I worked for a number of years in administration for a community hospital and a large radiology group before taking time away to raise a family. During that time, I had the opportunity to work as a patient advocate for Hospice, Shuffle through a couple of Marathons, volunteer for fundraisers at my children’s schools, and pursue my passion for writing. my clinical background in both healthcare administration and counseling has afforded me an opportunity to work in level one psychiatric hospitals, community hospitals, residential treatment centers, intensive outpatient settings, and private practice.

I am a cancer survivor and a parent who lost a child to suicide. These parts of my life inform how I work with people Experiencing trauma, loss, transition, and grief. It is an honor to walk alongside my clients as they rediscover both old and new parts of themselves.
